Mou: the boot with the exposed stitching, and the rest of the collection
Mou is one of those brands you recognize from a single detail: the chunky exposed stitching running along the boot's edge, made by hand and deliberately left irregular. It is the opposite of industrial finishing, and the reason a pair of Mou does not resemble any other shearling boot.
The Eskimo, and why it costs what it costs
The Eskimo boot is the model that made the brand. Shearling inside and out, a stitched sole, and that contrasting stitching made by hand one pair at a time: it is true artisanal craftsmanship, visible in the fact that no two pairs are ever identical.
Anyone comparing it with a mass-market shearling boot will immediately notice two differences. The first is the weight of the leather, which is more substantial. The second is how it ages: the Eskimo softens and takes the shape of the foot instead of losing its structure, and after two seasons it looks better than when it was new.
This season's Eskimo boots
Over the past year, the Eskimo boots have been the best-selling part of Mou. This season we have them in the Eskimo 18 and Eskimo 40 versions: with glitter or rhinestone logos on the heel, with wool-embroidered stars, with buckles, and in animal-print pony hair. The Mini Eskimo Platform puts the same boot on a high sole; the suede New Inner Wedge conceals a wedge inside.
Bounce, slippers and slides
After the Eskimo, the line we sell most is Bounce: the Bounce Clog sabot and the Eskimo Bounce sneaker, in double-face shearling with an EVA and rubber sole. The Eskimo Slipper styles are the slippers, with the same crochet stitching. For girls, there are the Eskimo Kid and the slide with an ankle strap.
How to choose your size
The shearling lining gives way during the first few weeks, and this is the most important thing to know before ordering: a Mou boot that feels comfortable on the first day will be loose after a month. It is therefore best to choose a snug fit at first, not a soft one.
If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller one for the Eskimo. For slides, the opposite applies, because they are worn with socks and have no laces or elastic to provide a closer fit. If in doubt, write to us with your foot length in centimetres: you will find it explained in our size converter.
One honest thing about shearling. It does not withstand heavy rain, and no treatment truly makes it waterproof. It is perfectly suited to dry snow and cold weather; not to a downpour. If you need a shoe for rain, take a look instead at a waterproof boot - we discuss it in the Timberland collection.
How to wear them
The Eskimo works with trousers tucked inside, never over the top: the stitching is the reason to buy it, and covering it would be a waste. With straight-leg jeans and a long coat, it is the combination we see most often and the one that is hardest to get wrong.
Slides and slippers are worn with socks on show, thick and in a contrasting colour. It is the only way a slipper worn outdoors makes sense: deliberately visible, not hidden.
The rest of the collection
Alongside its winter styles, the brand produces sneakers in suede with the same exposed stitching, as well as a summer line of sandals and EVA slides. They are different products that share the same idea of craftsmanship, and you will find them here all year round. Sandals and slides also have their own page, Mou summer styles.
If you want to know everything before choosing - how they fit, how to style them, and how to clean them - there is our guide to Mou shoes.
For an overview of the season: the autumn-winter 2026-2027 shoes and UGG, the other reference point for shearling.
Not sure which style is right for you? We have written the guide to this season's boots: combat boots, waterproof styles, shearling and ankle boots, with the criteria for choosing.
Frequently asked questions
Do Mou boots run large or small?
True to size, with one caveat: they are shoes without laces or fastenings, so the fit cannot be adjusted afterwards. Those with a high instep may find the Eskimo narrower than expected during the first few days; this is when it is most worthwhile to try it in person or write to us before ordering.
Can Mou boots get wet?
Only a little. Shearling withstands cold and dry snow but not heavy rain, and no treatment makes it truly waterproof. If they get wet, dry them away from heat sources, which would harden the leather.
What distinguishes Mou from other shearling boots?
The exposed stitching along the edge, made by hand one pair at a time and deliberately left irregular, and the weight of the leather, which is more substantial than that of industrially produced boots. These are also the two reasons for the price difference.
How do you clean Mou boots and slides?
Dry, using a rubber brush for suede and a barely damp cloth for leather parts. Treat stains with a suede eraser, never with soap and water. A protective spray before first use makes a difference throughout the season.
