Citrus and aromatic scents are fresh and versatile, perfect for daytime; woody fragrances (cedar, sandalwood, oud) are enveloping and elegant; oriental/amber scents are warm and sensual, ideal for evenings and winter; gourmand fragrances (vanilla, tobacco, coffee) are sweet and comforting.

If oriental fragrances are your preference, Arabic perfumes have a page of their own: Gulf maisons with oud, amber and saffron in concentrations rarely found in Europe.
