Dr. Martens is the British footwear brand founded in 1960 in Wollaston, England: yellow stitching, an AirWair sole and a rebellious attitude. Made famous by the 1460 model, it has become a cultural symbol from punk to contemporary fashion. Here you will find original Dr. Martens shoes — combat boots, Boots, Loafers, Sandals and Chelsea boots — selected from an authorized retailer, with the care of a family working in fashion since 1917.

Heritage Models

  • 1460: the 8-eyelet combat boot born on April 1, 1960. Available in the boutique in Smooth, tumbled Ambassador, Virginia and Pascal Mono leather.
  • 2976 Chelsea: the laceless ankle boot with elastic side panels, produced since the 1970s.
  • Adrian: the loafer with tassels and kiltie fringe, also dating back to the 1970s.
  • 1B99: the tall women's combat boot in soft Virginia leather, comfortable from the start.
  • Jadon and Sinclair: the platform models.

Dr. Martens Platform: Jadon and Sinclair

The Jadon has a 4.7 cm wedge sole and a zip on the inside of the ankle. The Sinclair sits on a 4 cm Quad sole and has a removable front zip. All models with a high sole, including the Molly and the Chelsea 2976 with a wedge sole, are available on the Dr. Martens platform page.

There is one simple rule for sizing. Dr. Martens are available only in whole UK sizes and fit true to size. If you wear a half size, go down to the nearest whole size: the leather gives slightly as it breaks in. Details for each model are in the size guide.

Production and Features

DM production still follows the 1960 method. The Goodyear welt is stitched and heat-sealed to the upper: this is where the distinctive visible yellow stitching originates. The AirWair air-cushioned sole is patented; the rear heel loop with the AirWair logo is the mark of authenticity. Platform models feature the taller, sculpted Quad sole. The sturdy leather shapes with wear: every pair becomes unique.

The Brand's History

The origins date back to 1945, when German doctor Klaus Märtens invented an air-cushioned sole to recover from a skiing injury. In 1959, the British Griggs family acquired the license. On April 1, 1960, the legendary 1460 boot was born: the number indicates the date, 1-4-60. Today, the brand is distributed in over 60 countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Vittorio Citro an authorized Dr. Martens retailer?

Yes, Vittorio Citro Boutique is an official authorized retailer of the brand. All footwear is 100% original, purchased directly from the brand with a guarantee of authenticity.

Is Dr. Martens an English brand?

Yes, it is a British brand based in Wollaston, England. The Griggs family launched the first 1460 boot in 1960, based on an invention by German doctor Klaus Märtens in 1945.

How do Dr. Martens fit?

Dr. Martens are available only in whole UK sizes and fit true to size. If you wear a half size, go down to the nearest whole size: the leather gives slightly as it breaks in. In other words: for a whole size, choose your usual size; for a half size, go down. Try them on with the socks you will actually wear. The chart is in the size guide.

What is the difference between Jadon and Sinclair?

The Sinclair sits on a 4 cm Quad sole and has a removable front zip. The Jadon has a 4.7 cm wedge sole and a zip on the inside of the ankle. The fit is the same as the classic models.

How do you lace Dr. Martens?

There are several lacing styles: classic criss-cross, straight (ladder), hidden or decorative. The choice depends on the look and the model (8, 10 or 14 eyelets). See the complete guide with photos.

Are Dr. Martens comfortable?

It depends on the leather. Combat boots in Smooth leather need a few weeks to break in; models in soft leather, such as Virginia and Nappa, are comfortable almost immediately. The air-cushioned sole does the rest.

How can you identify original Dr. Martens?

Originals have: regular yellow stitching along the edge of the sole, a rear heel loop with the AirWair logo embossed, an internal label with the model code, a two-tone sole and a branded insole. When you purchase from an authorized retailer like us, you have a guarantee of authenticity.

How much does Shipping cost?

Shipping is free in Italy from €149 (European Union from €299). For lower-value orders, the cost is only €5. Delivery in Italy takes 1-2 business days with an express courier and active tracking.
