Size converter: shoes and clothing
The conversion between European, British and American sizes is the leading cause of returns for online purchases, not because people get the calculations wrong, but because the charts do not match from one brand to another. Here you will find general conversions and, below, individual brand guides, which are what really matter when ordering.
The rule that resolves 90% of doubts. The only reliable measure is foot length in centimetres. Measure it while standing, from heel to toe, at the end of the day - the foot is about half a size larger in the evening. Then look for that value in the cm column: it is the only one that does not vary from brand to brand.

The questions we get asked most often
What is size 45 in US sizing? A men's EU 45 corresponds to approximately a US 11 (UK 10.5), which means a foot approximately 29 centimetres long.
And size 8? It depends on the system, making it the most ambiguous question of all. A men's UK 8 is an EU 42; a men's US 8 is an EU 41; a women's US 8 is an EU 38-39. If the number comes from an American website without any other indication, it is almost always US.
Why do some brands skip sizes? Because they produce using the UK scale, and the European conversion is not linear. Dr. Martens is the best-known example: labels go from 39 to 41, and size 40 does not exist. It is not a printing error.
Women's clothing sizes: from letter to number
| Size | IT | EU | UK | US |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 38-40 | 34-36 | 6-8 | 2-4 |
| S | 40-42 | 36-38 | 8-10 | 4-6 |
| M | 42-44 | 38-40 | 10-12 | 6-8 |
| L | 44-46 | 40-42 | 12-14 | 8-10 |
| XL | 46-48 | 42-44 | 14-16 | 10-12 |
| XXL | 48-50 | 44-46 | 16-18 | 12-14 |
What does a women's size L correspond to? A Italian 44-46 (European 40-42, UK 14-16, US 10-12). There is some variation because Italian brands tend to make L correspond to 46, while international brands tend to use 44: the same letter can vary by a full size.

The brand guides that matter
The charts above are for guidance. When ordering, the brand's sizing system is what matters, and it is often different: that's why we keep a guide for each of the brands we receive the most questions about.
If you're still unsure. Send us your foot length in centimeters and the style you're interested in: we'll tell you which size to ship. That's the advantage of buying from a boutique with its own warehouse - we can actually measure the shoe.

In women's clothing with Italian sizing, the two best-selling sizes are 42 and 44, almost tied: together they account for 54% of items, while size 38 stands at just 6%. In women's shoes, size 38 leads, followed by 39; in men's shoes, size 42 leads, with 43 and 44 close behind.
A sales share also indicates how many sizes we ordered. That's why sell-through appears alongside it: the share of stock received at the warehouse that was then sold. That's where demand becomes visible.

| 50 | 1,1% | 77% |
Only garments with numerical Italian sizing (jeans, swimwear, underwear, and garments sold by letter size excluded). Sizes representing less than 0.5% of items are not shown in the table.
From sizes 42 to 48, we sell 83% of what arrives; sizes 38 and 40 reach 76%: at the end of the season, mostly smaller sizes remain on the shelves. The gap is clear for Twinset and Pinko, while Marella's sales almost exactly mirror orders. Be careful when reading numbers as letters: on Pinko's scale, 42 is an M and 44 an L; on Twinset's, 44 is an M.

Women's or men's styles; unisex styles and children's shoes excluded. Half sizes (37½) and adidas thirds (38⅔) are grouped in one row. Sizes representing less than 0.5% of items are not shown in the table.
For women's shoes, sizes 37 to 40 account for 75% of units and all sell at the same rate; the sizes that remain are the extremes: 35, 36 and 41. For men's shoes, the same applies to sizes 39 and 46. One in six men's pairs is an intermediate size: half are adidas sneaker third sizes, and the rest are mainly Doucal's and Sebago shoes.
The figures describe what the boutique's customers buy from our assortment: they are not a measure of Italian women's or men's bodies. Sell-through = units sold / (units sold + remaining stock), from 1 January 2024 to 5 October 2026. No revenue data.

Frequently asked questions
What is a size 45 in US sizing?
A men's European size 45 corresponds to approximately a US 11 (UK 10.5), equivalent to a foot measuring around 29 centimetres. Conversions remain indicative: the individual brand's scale may shift the equivalent by half a size.
How are shoes measured in centimetres?
Standing up, place your heel against a wall and measure to the tip of your big toe. Do this at the end of the day, when your foot is at its largest, and use the longer of your two feet: a difference between the right and left foot is normal.
What European size does size 8 correspond to?
It depends on the system. A men's UK 8 is an EU 42; a men's US 8 is an EU 41; a women's US 8 is an EU 38-39. If the number comes from an American website with no further indication, it is almost always the US scale.
What does a women's L correspond to?
For an Italian women's L, equivalent to EU 40-42, UK 14-16, US 10-12. The range exists because Italian brands often place L at 46, while international brands place it at 44.
Why don't size conversions match across websites?
Because there is no mandatory standard: each brand builds its sizing scale around the last it uses. That is why the safest reference remains foot length in centimetres, and why it is always best to check the specific brand's size guide.
If I am between two sizes, which one should I choose?
There is no one-size-fits-all rule: it depends on the model. With a lace-up shoe, you can go up a size because the laces allow for adjustment; with a loafer or slip-on, going up means ending up with a loose heel. When in doubt, it is best to ask before ordering.
